We are coming to the end of our novel, Out of the Dust, and I hope your children have learned about the trials and tribulations experienced during the Dust Bowl. The novel does end on a hopeful note, and we will be having discussions and writing to a prompt about hope after the Christmas break.
I have suggested that the children bring some kind of food mentioned in the story on Friday, December 19. They can bring enough for their group of five, and it can be as simple as apples, milk with dust sprinkles (crushed oreos?), apple pie etc. It certainly doesn't need to be elaborate! They all have plenty of ideas! :)
